The summer’s been so much of a nightmare—I’ve decided. I’ve decided to become a nomad again. I had decided before, but everything is coming together now. I pulled the trigger and bought the ticket. The next few days, I spent dealing with so many other issues. My apartment was flooded. There was some court stuff that I have to deal with, and I decided that I wanted to start the food blog. Summer was a renaissance for me, which is a lot of work. It involved getting the equipment, trying to get myself together. I tried so many things this summer, but, it feels like I still want to be out there.
When my brother told me that he was going to do study in DRC for dancing— wait a minute, what?
Yeah, that’s it. I’m buying the ticket. I am buying the ticket.
I’m not going to hesitate because the world isn’t standing still for you. Nothing’s staying still. You actually have to get out there and get things moving because you’re not getting any younger.
Nothing’s going to stay the same. And if you don’t see it now, when are you going to see it? So I said, okay. And I got my ticket.
I had gotten the contract. It’s not a long contract, but I have confidence that I can really parlay this into something else. I talked to my coworkers. I talked to my manager, and I told them, listen, I got to kind of branch off on my own and I want to try this out. A lot of them weren’t surprised. They knew that this was kind of coming. I was thinking about it for a while.
It’s happening now. The immediacy of it happening right now, it’s what might have shocked them a little bit. And because of that, I decided to start going out to these social events as well, seeing if I can get my business more recognized and more in the known outside the circles that have given me referrals in the past. I have lots of good referrals and I have great working relationships with a lot of people. So at least I don’t have that fear that I don’t have any reputation, or I can’t do anything. I know that there’s a lot of people that are available out there for me to work for them and work with them on various projects.
Today, the reason why I’m even doing this travel journal today is because I bought some, I went to Patagonia. Patagonia is down there on, when you go to Union Square and you walk over to 17th and 5th. This is where I also bought my backpack. I bought the new compression bags because one of the things that I was traveling before was that I had to really split up my things when I was going from Argentina into Brazil. And it wasn’t only because I had the work clothes, but I had to stuff a lot of things into my backpack.
If I’m only going to be traveling with a backpack now, I want to be as efficient as I can with my space. I bought these compression bags, and I’m trying them out. I’m getting really excited about just getting back on the road and being out there traveling because the summer has just been it.
And now that I’m going to Taiwan, I think that it’ll be really cool and interesting because there’s a little bit of, you know, work related stuff there too. So it will be a lot like the Argentina trip where I’ll be working a good bit, but I’ll have the opportunity to explore a lot more with this type of contract because I have the freedom to explore more on a daily basis versus what I had to go into the office and more stay in one position most of the time. So I’m going to be able to see a little bit more and just be more involved in an even different culture because I don’t know any Chinese or know anything about Taiwan.
I’m so excited to be able to go there and have this opportunity to see the space and to participate in it and to see what kind of cool foods they have over there. It’s going to be really interesting. I can’t wait. And these bags, they’re already packed. I don’t leave for another two weeks, but I am so excited to be able to start planning something and getting away again and being on the road.
