I haven’t done a journal entry in a few days. Today is the start of the lovely month of June. I wanted to get a fresh start on things. I wanted to be a different place, one that I had not gone before. Instead of being in Palermo— where all the wonderful café, bars and hip spots are. IT has everything… and then office. I can’t forget the office is the reason why I’m there. I’m going to go somewhere different. Well, I came somewhere different. There are so many things to talk about, I had so many different interesting experiences, that I really should have done another journal entry. I was so busy, I was busy everything that was happening. I want to tell you guys all about it.
First off, the first thing that I did in the last few days was make fried chicken for the office. It was time to return the favor. They can’t be making me Asado, making me question the choices I have made in life and food without me paying them back with some food. I got them together with fried chicken. I made not the best, because I couldn’t find all the seasonings, but I made do with what I had. Not only that, but I got bread crumbs, and at least of some of the seasons I usually use. I can’t share. People always trying to get my season mix, you are not going to have it! OK? Not getting the special seasoning mix right.
I got most of the seasonings from the butcher shop. I also got seasoning from the supermarket. They had some McCormick. They had some seasoned salt, they had black pepper seasoning that I usually use. It wasn’t all the seasoning, that I usually used to get that authentic flavor. That’s neither here nor there. I marinated it from that before. Put it in the fridge for them. Let them know that tomorrow, I will be making the fried chicken.
It’s a really cool office by the way, there is the office space and there’s a whole full kitchen. The meeting rooms are upstairs, also with a quiet room. If you need to take a meeting, or want to be on the phone, go upstairs. The bathrooms are here as well.
So I was in the back in the kitchen area, as soon as I started frying that chicken, Nicolas was looking, smelling, knowing that something happening. Yeah, something is happening: it’s called flavor and seasoning. Hehehehehe. I made the fried chicken. It went over really well with everyone. I was a huge win for the office. They really loved it. They were so interested to see and to taste it. To see the process of me making it. I know that they have fried chicken here but obviously my process is a bit different and I didn’t use a wet dredge, it was a dry rub. It came out really well. It was a hit, like I said.
After that, they said ok, what’s next? Next time? I said:“ next time, what I’m gonna do is: I’m gonna maybe try to find something that’s like Jamaican for you to taste again”. Because I realized that some of the people in the office—Nicolas being one of them, they do eat a very limited diet. The same thing every day. He has milanesa every day, which is really just bread flattened out chicken breast, a little mozzarella cheese possibly, a little bit of sauce (maybe). I’ve seen him eat it dry, no cheese or sauce. He eats that every day. I’m gonna try my best to introduce you to some of the stuff we eat in the Caribbean, to give you a different taste.
Yeah but, the office, it’s really cool. Just be able to share culture and get some culture from there too. With that same spirit, I decided that yes for Palermo, but let’s go to different area. So two days ago, I switched apartments on Airbnb. I decided to go to Belgrano. Now, Belgrano is a neighborhood that Glenda is living in. She told me it’s a really nice neighborhood. It’s very family oriented place, they have a lot of food there. There are lots of markets and cool stuff.
So I moved there. It was this huge loft there, OMG. It was Just so gorgeous, I have these pictures of me sitting in these grand huge windows just for you to imagine how beautiful this space is. Then there’s a good market close by. I was so surprised at what I saw in the markets here. I saw they had fresh coconut! Of course Brazil is right there, for them to import, but it is not like they have coconut trees here. Guess what else I found there? Sugar Cane, Yes I did. I made sure that I brought some sugarcane in yesterday. Because I was like: y’all not gonna have me here, even know how to eat it, and I’m not gonna share the experience. So I shared my sugar cane with them. They took pictures of me peeling it, and even take a video too. Then I showed them how to eat it. You don’t really eat the whole thing, you chew it and then suck the juice out of it. People don’t know that about sugarcane, they think you eat the whole thing. Which is interesting because Brazil is right there. They come to Jamaica, we know they got the same there. I’m sure it was just that aren’t familiar with those kinds of foods and this being so far outside their realm of diet. So it was cool. It is kinda nice here in Belgrano.
I’m gonna sign off for the night because I’m getting ready to go out. I want to see what’s out on the town. Furthermore, I don’t know if I’m going to be here in Belgrano, because I didn’t really cool or interesting or anything like that. So we will see, see ya next time.
