I traveled to a very remote area today. I should have known a little bit better.
Traveling to a remote area can be difficult without a guide. I probably should have planned the timing much better. I really didn’t think it through, because I’ve been mostly getting deals or looking at deals on Despegar (https://www.despegar.com.ar/).
So it’s more about the budget traveling—the same thing with the Airbnb situation. I’ve been looking at budget traveling, so I wasn’t paying very close attention too much other than the price. One of the things that it is important to pay attention to when you’re traveling as a nomad is that you have to make sure that your times align properly with your destination wherever you’re going. One wonderful thing about taking evening flights are those twilight pictures, and Argentina does not disappoint here. The view was magnificent.
If you land there in the evening—and you’re not familiar with the place—it’s going to be difficult for you to get yourself situated. Hard to see the street signs; to be able to get yourself to the hotel. Sometimes even calling taxis because in this town apparently the taxis at 9 p.m. They either just aren’t many or don’t want to run anymore. You do have to check and make sure that in the daytime you’re landing; or you’re going to be there in the daytime. Especially because, not only will the businesses be open, but you’ll have daylight to be able to navigate yourself around.
Beyond that, it’s neither here nor there. Finding yourself on these random flights can also lead to experiences outside the general tourist route. I met somebody fascinating on the plane. He’s a teacher. He’s coming here to San Salvador de Jujuy to teach, and we got to connect on the airplane. There wasn’t that many people on the airplane, and he heard me speaking English. So he came over, we struck up a conversation.
I was already a little bit sauce from the from the lounge, you know, I have to stop in the lounge and have a drink most of the time I get to these flights just because I’d like to be relaxed and feel good, but had a really great conversation that lasted the entire flight. We were just chit-chatting. It’s a good thing. There weren’t too many people on the plane with us because we surely would have disturbed them, but we had such a great conversation and even after we had gotten off the plane him and I were talking. Turns out were going to the same place in town—so we took a ride in the cab together. We chit-chatted all the way to the square and then he was telling me more about the history of San Salvador de Uruguay because he is a teacher. He’s coming here as a professor and he’s teaching in the university here.
He was telling me some more about the history some of the things that he was going to tell the students about and it was really cool getting this impromptu tour out of nowhere who would have thought but these are the things that happen when you travel and you let things be and you do have to be open to them being fun having a nice demeanor and having a nice personality opens you up to these things. So I can’t wait to see what happens next time. But this is the tall black Nomad signing off because it’s been a really long day.
I’m very happy to have experienced that day, but I’m tired and I need some rest. It’s a Friday night. Tomorrow, i’m going to be seeing what’s up with the mountain.
There’s supposed to be this cable car thing going up there. So I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow.
